My Daughter Loves Them

Dear team, our floor has been installed and I must say, I am absolutely delighted. The delivery was very friendly, even though the original appointment was not met. Thanks to the flexibility of the material, we managed to compensate for uneven surfaces without needing additional leveling compound. The installation was no problem at all. It has already passed the rigorous cleaning test and our daughter loves running around on it.

The emissions are minimal and will surely disappear over time. Kudos also to your website – the right product was quickly found. The price is more than fair. With leveling compound, tile adhesive, tiles and much more labour, we wouldn’t have come out cheaper. In summary, we are more than satisfied and have already sparked great interest among friends and family. Thank you also for the friendly correspondence by email.

Installing Terrace Tiles Made Easy

  • Versatile: in the garden – at the house – on flat roofs

  • Floating installation – no need for adhesive or screws

  • Frost-resistant – no chipping, cracking or flaking

  • Evenly water-permeable – no puddle formation

Build or Renovate Your Terrace with Ease

With WARCO’s terrace tiles, constructing a new terrace or renovating an existing one is fast and straightforward. No special tools or skills are required.

Whether on garden soil, a concrete slab at the house or on a flat roof waterproofing layer – wherever you want – a new, attractive terrace comes to life in no time.

The rooftop terrace with old concrete paving offers a spacious area to relax. The dirty surface of the concrete slabs shows clear signs of wear. The sunshade provides pleasant shade on hot days. Plant pots with palms and a hammock create a welcoming atmosphere. The metal and glass railing completes the modern, open design of the terrace.

WARCO’s terrace tiles have a significant advantage over many other flooring materials: they can often be installed without any preliminary work on any load-bearing substrate.

Thanks to an integrated interlocking system, such as the puzzle interlock, a stable tiled surface is created. A firm connection to the substrate – by screwing or gluing – is not required.

The renovated rooftop terrace features granite-look paving tiles arranged in a geometric pattern of light and dark grey squares, creating a modern and stylish atmosphere. The robust rubber tile flooring provides slip resistance and comfort. A sunshade offers pleasant shade on hot days. A planter with a palm and a lounger complete the inviting terrace design. The metal and glass railing gives the rooftop terrace an open and airy appearance.

The tiles simply lie in place – stable even on uneven surfaces – and can easily be removed and reinstalled if needed.

Almost all customers install the tiles themselves. If you prefer not to, you can hire a local craftsman. A circular or jigsaw is sufficient for cutting the edge tiles or making openings.

Exceeded Expectations

We too wanted a solution for our old terrace (wash concrete) of 70 m²! The description and testimonials were very helpful, even though there were some concerns. After ordering, the delivery was almost on time. The installation was very easy – much faster than expected. A few attempts were needed to find the right tool for cutting, but ultimately it was straightforward with a jigsaw. Everyone who saw our project afterwards was impressed. It was undoubtedly the right decision!

In a Few Steps to Your New Terrace Flooring

A terrace is being renovated. An elderly woman is laying the next 18 mm thick terrace tile with interlocking edges onto the already partially covered terrace. A sealing membrane serves as a substrate for the new rubber tile flooring. The precise interlocking of the tiles allows for easy and stable installation.
Establish a Sub-base in the Garden

To create a terrace in the garden, a load-bearing sub-base – the support layer – is necessary.

A cost-effective solution is a support layer made of gravel grids (lawn grids) on a roughly 4 cm thick layer of crushed stone. The terrace tiles are laid directly on the plastic grids filled with gravel.

Only minimal earthworks are required, and the area can be easily restored. The water-permeable construction allows for the infiltration of rainwater.

Repair or Replace the Waterproofing

Concrete ceilings of terraces and waterproofing membranes made of bitumen can become cracked and leaky due to weathering and ageing.

If the waterproofing is insufficient, a repair is recommended to prevent further damage.

ALLESDICHT – the rubber membrane from the bucket – is a non-toxic thick coating for simple re-waterproofing, repair or renovation. It is trowelled or brushed on and forms an elastic waterproof layer.

Level Out Irregularities

The existing substrate is often uneven – especially on flat roofs – which can lead to puddle formation in the rain. To avoid waterlogging, irregularities should be levelled out.

Sand or gravel are unsuitable. Cuttings from roofing felt have proven effective – fitting precisely, even in multiple layers, into the depressions. They are stable and do not rot.

Irregularities are filled in as the tiles are installed. A long spirit level makes it easy to spot uneven areas.

Separation Layer on PVC or FPO Roof Membrane

For waterproofing flat roofs or concrete ceilings, sheets made of PVC, FPO or EPDM are often used.

On EPDM membranes, rubber tiles can be laid directly. With plastic membranes, a separation layer is necessary as plasticisers could otherwise migrate into the rubber tiles.

Choose an Installation Strategy

The right strategy is crucial for a good installation result. Starting in one corner often leads to poor results.

It is better to begin with the first tile in the centre of the area. A row of full tiles is then laid around the centre tile to check the alignment and the size of the remaining edge areas. Adjustments can be made if necessary.

The advantage: Cutting is done last, so any changes during installation are always possible, and errors affect at most half the area.

Install the Terrace Tiles

Lay the terrace tiles according to the chosen strategy. Avoid direct sunlight and aim for temperatures below 17 °C (tile temperature).

Tiles with a clip connection are installed in a half-bond pattern. Tiles with puzzle interlocking or concealed puzzle interlocking are laid in a checkerboard pattern (cross joint). Large-format tiles can also be laid in a half-bond pattern.

Cut the Edges and Corners

Once all the tiles are in place, the edge tiles are cut. One tile usually serves for both edge pieces – one section at the beginning, the other at the end. The same applies to corners.

A circular saw with a blade for rubber or wood is suitable for cutting. Jigsaws can be used for curves and cutouts. Cutting discs and metal saw blades are unsuitable.

It is best to do the cutting outdoors.

Easy to Work With

I used these to install two terraces, each about 30 m². Cutting and adjusting the corners took me roughly 4 hours per terrace – done at a relaxed pace with plenty of breaks :-) With a bit of DIY know-how (one should be able to use a tape measure and jigsaw), they are really very easy to install. Minor irregularities are easily levelled by the tiles – the flatter the substrate, the better. Rainwater runs off the tiles very effectively, so no puddles form. I am totally delighted – the next terrace is already planned.

No Hassle with Your Terrace Floor

  • Low maintenance and upkeep-free

  • Durable and sustainable – recyclable

A girl is playing ball on a terrace between two wooden-clad building walls. The flooring consists of black rubber granulate terrace tiles, providing a robust and resilient surface suitable for sports activities. In the background, a sunshade and a small wooden seating area create an inviting atmosphere.

WARCO terrace tiles are naturally durable, weather- and frost-resistant. Some customers still use tiles they installed in the early 2000s.

A terrace made of WARCO tiles is low-maintenance. Rainwater permeates extensively through the water-permeable tiles and carries away fine dirt – a natural self-cleaning effect

Coarse dirt can be removed with a broom, hose, pressure washer or vacuum cleaner. The floor is maintenance-free and does not need to be impregnated, sanded or painted.

The Complete Range of Terrace Flooring

Terrace Flooring with (Almost) Invisible Joints

On the installed surface, the individual tiles and the interlocking joints are barely noticeable. This is because the tiles are cut with high precision in larger formats.

The tile edges are not rounded but squared. Thanks to the exact dimensions, the tiles lie tightly together – without any open joints. This creates the impression of a continuous, jointless surface.

Classic Terrace Tiles for All Types of Terraces

The classic terrace tiles in the 50 × 50 cm format are suitable for terraces of all sizes and can be installed on any appropriate substrate. The edges are slightly rounded (with a chamfer) as the tiles are pressed into shape.

Three interlocking systems are available. Depending on the colour, the appearance of the joints on the finished terrace is more or less visible. With tiles featuring puzzle interlocking, the joint is particularly narrow.

Terrace Tiles for Covered Patios or Conservatories

Terrace tiles in the 100 × 100 cm format are suitable for covered areas such as conservatories or terraces that are only lightly exposed to the elements. The edges are chamfered (slightly rounded) as the tiles are pressed into shape.

There are two interlocking systems available – puzzle interlocking and concealed puzzle interlocking. Installation can be done with a cross or T-joint. The visibility of the joints largely depends on the chosen colour.

Tiles for Small Terraces with an Area up to 25 m²

For small terraces with an even, solid substrate, tiles in the 50 × 50 cm format and a thickness of 18 to 25 mm are suitable. The area should not exceed 25 m².

Since the tiles are manufactured in moulds, the edges are chamfered (slightly rounded). Terrace tiles with puzzle interlocking are laid in a cross pattern, while tiles with plastic connectors are installed in a half-bond pattern with T-joints.

Terrace Flooring for Areas Subject to Heavy Wear

In publicly or commercially used areas such as beer gardens, restaurant or hotel terraces, the flooring is subject to intense wear. For such applications, there are terrace tiles with higher density – i.e. more material in the tile.

Due to the higher density, there are fewer gaps between the rubber granulate particles, making the tiles more abrasion-resistant but less water-permeable. The tiles have a subtle chamfer on the edges. For private use, these terrace floors are less suitable.

Wall Cladding, Installation, Assembly and Waterproofing

As useful accessories, there are permanently elastic adhesives for securely bonding the rubber tiles, gravel grids (lawn grids) for a stable substrate under the terrace tiles and wall protection profiles for a neat and attractive wall finish.

ALLESDICHT – the flexible rubber membrane from the bucket – is especially recommended for the long-lasting waterproofing of horizontal and vertical surfaces.
