Frequently asked questions

Do rubber mats smell like rubber?

Naturally, objects made of rubber smell of rubber – just as a beech board smells of wood and leather upholstery smells of leather. With rubber granulate flooring, the intensity of the odour mainly depends on the type and quality of the ingredients used as well as the origin of the material. Responsibly manufactured flooring shows a continuous decrease in odour from the time of production, similar to how the “new car smell” gradually fades.

The rate at which the smell dissipates is largely influenced by external conditions. Higher temperatures may intensify the odour temporarily but also cause it to vanish more quickly – much like a pot from which more water vapour escapes when strongly heated.

For years, WARCO has supplied flooring to private, commercial, and municipal customers who use these products both indoors (e.g. in CrossFit boxes) and outdoors (e.g. on balconies and terraces). Odour perception is always individual – in some cases, the smell may be perceived as disturbing – however, no health risks are associated with these products.
