What should be considered before installing rubber granulate products outdoors?
Products made from rubber granulate that are permanently exposed to outdoor weather must essentially be water-permeable. The slabs must be completely dry before installation – although installation in rainy conditions is possible, waterlogged slabs must not be used.
The optimal installation temperature lies midway between the lowest and highest temperatures at the site; in Central Europe, a temperature range of 5 °C to 20 °C is recommended, with temperatures below 17 °C being advantageous. Installation in direct sunlight should be avoided to prevent uneven heating. Moreover, it is important to ensure that all slabs maintain a uniform temperature throughout the entire installation period.
The surface may contain residues of release agents from the manufacturing process, which can be removed if necessary using a pressure washer or water and an appropriate brush.
New products initially emit a typical rubber odour that dissipates over time and is harmless, although under intense sunlight the odour may temporarily become more pronounced. In any case, the specific installation instructions for the product, substrate, and installation system must be followed.
