Type XT gym floor tiles are precision-cut, 1.8 cm thick and have a wearing layer of through-coloured EPDM rubber granules. The tiles meet in a tight joint, so the finished floor looks like a poured surface. The flooring is pleasantly resilient underfoot, slip-resistant and colour-stable. It can be laid indoors and outdoors.
What is the flooring like to exercise on?
Whether you do gymnastics, yoga, Pilates or stretches after a run, many of the exercises involve lying down, sitting or kneeling. The resilient flooring feels comfortable for these exercises. It feels warm under bare feet. The grippy surface is slip-resistant. The flooring cushions impacts and reduces noise from footsteps and jumps. This makes it suitable for home gyms, group exercise studios and physiotherapy clinics.
What are the tiles made from?
The tiles have two layers with different functions. The upper wearing layer comes into contact with hands and feet. It is made from newly manufactured EPDM rubber granules that are coloured throughout. This means the tiles retain their colour even as the surface wears over time. The base layer is made from recycled tyre rubber granules (ELT), produced from end-of-life tyres. Its low density provides good cushioning. The flooring is intended for bodyweight exercises and light training equipment such as balls or bands. It weighs around 14 kg per square metre. Freshly unpacked tiles sometimes smell of rubber. With good ventilation, the smell soon fades.
How are the tiles laid?
The tiles are simply laid in place without drilling, gluing or screwing. You do not need a tradesperson for the job. The substrate, such as screed, floor tiles, parquet or timber flooring, must be stable, capable of bearing the load over time and reasonably level. The tiles can also be laid over underfloor heating. The rounded profiles of the optimised jigsaw interlock connect the tiles and keep the edges from lifting. At the perimeter, cut the tiles with a jigsaw or circular saw. If you move home, you can lift the flooring and lay it again in the new room.
How easy is the flooring to look after indoors and outdoors?
Indoors, a vacuum cleaner, broom or mop is enough. For damp mopping, use warm water and a neutral cleaner. For hygienic cleaning, the tiles can also be wiped with an alcohol-based disinfectant. Outdoors, for example on a terrace, rain passes through the tiles. On an impermeable substrate, it drains along their underside in the direction of the gradient. This means that no puddles are left standing. Frost does not damage the tiles.
What are the options for extra layers and cutting?
One or more layers of Type XX functional tiles can be placed beneath the flooring. They are available in two thicknesses and three densities. A lower density provides greater shock absorption, while a higher density bears more weight. This can provide additional shock absorption for jumps and floor exercises. If you prefer not to cut the tiles yourself, draw the area in the laying planner on the WARCO website and send the DXF file to WARCO. For an additional charge, WARCO supplies the tiles cut to size and ready to lay.
