Frequently asked questions

Can a basement be waterproofed retroactively?

Yes. You can waterproof a basement from the outside or from the inside using ALLESDICHT. Your choice depends on how much moisture pressure the wall faces and how accessible the surface is.

External waterproofing is the more effective option because it intercepts water before it reaches the wall. Expose the wall carefully, apply ALLESDICHT in several coats to the clean surface and create a seamless, elastic barrier. The coating bonds to concrete, masonry and bitumen and bridges fine cracks caused by building settlement.

Internal waterproofing is worth considering if you can’t access the outside – perhaps because an extension blocks it or a paving surface covers it. ALLESDICHT withstands hydrostatic pressure and can be applied to the inside face of the wall. Once cured, you can plaster it or install cladding over it.

Either way, substrate preparation is crucial. Remove loose plaster, efflorescence and any debris before you begin.
