How can I waterproof a surface?

When renovating balconies, terraces, roof terraces, porches, stables or swimming pools, a common question is how to effectively waterproof a surface before installing a new floor covering to prevent water from penetrating the structure. Two recommended methods have proven to be effective.

The simplest and most reliable method is to use WARCO ALLESDICHT, the highly elastic rubber membrane supplied in a bucket. It is applied in 2-3 coats over the area to be sealed and, when dry, forms an elastic, crack-bridging and robust rubber layer that bonds permanently to the substrate. Even inexperienced users can easily seal embedded manholes or joints with this product.

Alternatively, waterproofing can be achieved using roofing membranes, preferably EPDM. These membranes are available in a variety of sizes, including large sizes, which often allows the entire area to be covered with a single, custom cut sheet of membrane. The sheet is laid and secured over the area like a cloth. A precisely cut one-piece membrane eliminates the joints and overlaps typical of bitumen membranes, making installation easier, faster and safer.
