The WARCO Rubber Kerb is an elastic edging for paths, play areas, sports facilities and other outdoor surfaces. It is permanently set in a concrete foundation with a rear support and provides a clean, safe and clearly defined boundary between adjacent areas. The non-slip, shock-absorbing surface creates a comfortable contact edge – safe underfoot and in the event of a fall.
Dimensions and structure
Each kerb element measures 100 × 25 × 5 cm. Made from PU-bound ELT rubber granulate (ELT = End-of-Life Tyres), it combines elasticity, weather resistance and long service life. The open-pored surface offers reliable wet-grip and a slight underfoot resilience. The side faces feature a contoured profile that keys securely into the surrounding concrete during installation.
Installation and alignment
A frost-resistant sub-base of gravel or crushed stone is prepared, followed by the concrete foundation along the required layout. The Rubber Kerb is aligned and embedded into the fresh concrete. Plastic dowels act as installation aids, keeping elements accurately in line and simplifying precise positioning for both straight runs and curves. The rear support is then cast in concrete to complete the permanent set-up.
Properties and applications
Rubber Kerb is suitable for edging walkways, running tracks, sports fields, beach volleyball courts, playgrounds, planting beds and courtyard areas. Its elastic structure absorbs impacts and helps reduce injury risk, creating a safe, user-friendly edge wherever people walk, run or play.
Durability and maintenance
Resistant to frost, moisture and UV exposure, the PU-bound ELT rubber granulate requires no maintenance and is easily cleaned by rain or rinsing. The kerb remains functional and visually neat for many years under outdoor conditions.

An edge restraint is needed to prevent lateral movement at the free edges of an area laid on an unbound sub-base.
An edging kerb, also known as a kerbstone or edging stone, provides this restraint. It is particularly relevant for block paving, paving slabs and rubber paving tiles with interlocking connectors. Existing firm boundaries can also provide lateral restraint.
The edge restraint forms the lateral abutment for the surfacing. It absorbs horizontal forces arising from use and movements caused by temperature changes. This keeps the outer blocks or tiles in their intended position, stabilises the joint pattern and prevents movement at the edges.
No additional edge restraint is required where the surfacing is already permanently bounded by an adjoining concrete area, a wall or a fixed building edge.
Independently of its structural function, an edging kerb can provide a clean separation between paths or surfaced areas and grass, garden beds or sand areas. Typical applications include garden-bed edging and the perimeter of beach volleyball courts.
The edging kerb is installed upright on a concrete bed and secured laterally with a concrete haunch. Approximately 65% of its height is below finished ground level. A load-bearing, adequately drained substrate that is not susceptible to frost is required for a permanently stable edge.
Flexible edging kerbs are suitable for both straight and curved edges.
