Horses spend many hours a day standing and lying down, which strains their joints and tendons. A resilient rubber floor in the stable eases that strain and encourages the animal to rest properly. This tile has been developed for that setting in the loose box, the loose housing barn and the open stable, and it suits horses and ponies alike. Its greater thickness sets it apart from the everyday stable tile and gives the standing and lying area more cushioning.

Made from recycled tyre rubber granules

The tile is produced from recycled tyre rubber granules that are pressed together with a polyurethane binder into a firm, dimensionally stable plate. This construction copes well with damp and with the constant abrasion of hooves. It does not splinter and does not rot, so with proper use and care it stays serviceable for many years.

Cushioning that protects the joints

Because the tile is thicker than a typical stable tile, it gives slightly under the weight of the horse without the hoof sinking in. Standing and lying down are cushioned more gently, which relieves the joints and tendons and helps prevent pressure sores on the hock and the heel. The structured surface is slip-resistant and lowers the risk of slipping as the horse lies down and rises.

A ventilated underside

On its reverse the tile carries rounded nubs that hold it above the stable floor and create a ventilated air space beneath. This layer of air keeps the cold of the floor away from the lying surface. The open pores let water drain through to the base below, where it can soak away or follow the fall of the floor and run off.

Simple to lay and to clean

The tiles are laid loosely in a random bond pattern with an irregular offset and framed all round, so they hold their position without being joined together. As they are not fixed to one another, each tile can be lifted out on its own for cleaning and disinfecting, and the floor underneath cleaned at the same time.

Bedding and stable hygiene

Bedding does not replace the tile but works alongside it, taking up urine, cushioning the resting place and binding ammonia. Urine should not reach the tile, because if it runs beneath it gathers on the floor below and becomes a hygiene problem. A bedded muck corner or an accessible paddock keeps the lying area clean.
