Frequently asked questions

What flooring is suitable for a physiotherapy clinic?

Rubber flooring for gym and exercise equipment can be suitable for a physiotherapy clinic, provided that it is level, slip-resistant and easy to clean. Its strength and elasticity must be appropriate for the intended use.

When their strength and elasticity are appropriate for the intended use, rubber tiles made from PU-bound rubber granules are particularly suitable for areas used for strength exercises, coordination exercises and floor exercises. Their elastic structure absorbs impacts and vibrations, providing a more yielding surface than hard flooring for standing and floor exercises.

This yielding surface must not compromise a stable stance during gait training, balance exercises or stability exercises. Where wheelchairs, walking frames, therapy couches or exercise equipment are moved, the flooring must be sufficiently resistant to pressure and easy to move across.

For this purpose, the tiles must be laid so that they remain in place and do not create trip hazards. Transitions to adjoining flooring areas must be level.

Hygienic suitability depends on the specific surface and the manufacturer’s instructions. The flooring must be cleanable in accordance with the hygiene plan and resistant to the intended cleaning agents and disinfectants. In areas with increased hygiene requirements, dense flooring with few joints may be more suitable than porous rubber granule tiles. Porous rubber granule tiles are primarily suitable for clearly defined movement and exercise areas.
