How long do commercial rubber flooring tiles last?
Rubber tiles and rubber mats made from PU-bound rubber granules have an indicative service life of ten to fifteen years. This guide is based on experience rather than representing a fixed lifespan: some areas remain in use for more than twenty years, while others are replaced after only a few years.
How heavily an area is used is the main factor affecting service life, with mechanical abrasion of the surface being the most significant cause of deterioration. Abrasion is generally markedly lower in private settings than in commercially operated facilities. Site location and local conditions, sunlight, frequent freeze–thaw cycles and the type of granules also affect service life. An EPDM wearing layer is colour-stable and UV-resistant, whereas ELT with pigmented binder may change in shade over the years.
The quality of installation also affects service life. Installing the covering in accordance with the installation guidelines on a level, load-bearing substrate can extend its service life.
