Frequently asked questions

How does the concealed puzzle connection (concealed zipper system) work in rubber tiles?

Rubber tiles with a concealed puzzle connection (also known as a concealed zipper system) feature a classic, square shape that creates a uniform, linear joint pattern when laid – even though the tiles are actually form-fittingly connected through a puzzle connection (referred to by WARCO as a zipper system).

The puzzle interlocking is inconspicuously arranged beneath the visible side of the tile. On two adjacent sides, there are tooth strips, while on the directly opposite underside the matching counterparts are integrated. During installation, these teeth interlock flush – much like a zipper – forming a stable, durable bond between the tiles.

The extremely narrow joints between the tiles end at the connection system and do not extend to the substrate, ensuring that it remains completely covered and preventing any weed growth from below.

To compensate for weather-related stresses, a few weeks after outdoor installation – once the surface has acclimatized – the tile corners should be fixed with a few drops of PU adhesive. In cases of increased vandalism risk, permanently bonding the tiles to each other or to the substrate is also advisable. To prevent dirt accumulation in the connection system, the tiled surface must always be kept clean.
