How do I properly secure a trampoline in the garden?

A trampoline in the garden is great fun – especially for children. To ensure safe use and minimise the risk of injury, the following safety measures should be taken:

    Install a safety net

A close-mesh safety net around the trampoline helps prevent children from falling off while jumping. It should be firmly secured and checked regularly for damage or loose fixings to ensure it provides reliable protection.

    Choose a suitable surface

The ground surrounding the trampoline should absorb impact effectively. Loose materials such as bark mulch, wood chips or fine gravel (2–8 mm) are possible options. For long-lasting and low-maintenance safety, impact-absorbing rubber mats are recommended. Certified impact protection tiles from WARCO have proven especially effective – they are slip-resistant, weatherproof, EN 1177 tested and easy to maintain.

    Provide enough fall space

The safety area should extend at least two metres beyond the trampoline’s outer edge. This zone must be kept clear of hard or fixed objects such as garden furniture, walls, toys or plant pots.

Install impact protection mats under the trampoline

On hard surfaces like paving or concrete, it’s advisable to place shock-absorbing mats directly under the trampoline as well. This significantly reduces the risk of injury in the event of slipping or falling. Impact protection mats are easy to install and can be retrofitted at any time.

    Check the trampoline regularly

Especially before the outdoor season starts, the trampoline should be thoroughly inspected. Check the frame, legs, jumping mat, springs and safety net for wear, rust or loose parts. Any damaged components should be replaced immediately to ensure continued safety.
