Frequently asked questions

How do I install rubber mats and rubber decking tiles on roofing felt, flat roof membranes, or bitumen sheets?

Decking tiles made of rubber granulate can usually be installed directly on the waterproofing of balconies, terraces, roof terraces, flat roofs, or carports. These areas are often sealed with roofing felt, bitumen sheets, or plastic membranes.

If the existing waterproofing is damaged, it should be refurbished or renewed before laying the new tiles. To do so, the surface is simply permanently sealed with ALLESDICHT – the brushable rubber membrane from the bucket. Once dry, ALLESDICHT forms a highly elastic, completely waterproof, crack-bridging rubber membrane with high stretchability.

On surfaces exposed to the weather, efficient water drainage must be ensured. Therefore, a slope of 1% to 2% towards the drainage should be provided. Rubber granulate decking tiles are always permeable and have integrated drainage channels on their underside through which water is evenly diverted.

On uneven or wavy waterproofing, it should be checked whether water collects in puddles. If so, the depressions must be compensated – preferably permanently with precisely cut pieces of roofing felt. Roofing felt used as a repair material has proven effective because it does not shift, rot, and can be used directly during installation.

Waterproofing for flat roofs, roof terraces, or balconies often consists of different materials. These are either plastics (e.g. PVC) made flexible with the help of plasticisers or synthetic rubber (e.g. EPDM) without plasticisers. For membranes containing plasticisers, it is advisable to install a thin separation fleece made of polyester or glass fibres between the membrane and the rubber granulate layer to prevent the migration of plasticisers. With plasticiser-free membranes, the floor covering can be laid directly.
